✅ Description:

  • HB-Fix is designed for active immunization against infections caused by all known subtypes of the Hepatitis B virus (HBV). Additionally, since Hepatitis D (caused by the delta virus) cannot occur without the presence of an HBV infection, vaccination with HB-Fix is expected to offer protection against Hepatitis D as well.
  • Vaccination with HB-Fix is recommended for individuals of all age groups, particularly for those at an elevated risk of exposure to HBV.
  • HB-Fix is a noninfectious recombinant DNA vaccine formulated for protection against Hepatitis B. This sterile suspension contains purified surface antigens of the Hepatitis B virus, which are produced using advanced genetic engineering techniques.
  • The antigen is generated by Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) cells that have been genetically modified to carry the gene encoding the Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). The antigen expressed in these yeast cells undergoes rigorous purification through multiple physicochemical processes, ensuring a high degree of purity.
  • The final vaccine is presented as a suspension where the antigen is adsorbed onto aluminum hydroxide to enhance its immunogenicity. Importantly, no human-derived substances are used in the production process, ensuring both safety and purity.

✔️
✔️ Populations at Risk of HBV Infection

Neonates born to infected mothers: Babies can contract the infection during childbirth if the mother carries the HBV.

Children, adolescents, and adults: Transmission occurs through:

  • Direct contact with blood or bodily fluids: This includes exposure via open wounds, cuts, bites, or sores.
  • Shared personal items contaminated with blood or fluids: Items such as toothbrushes, razors, or medical devices (e.g., those used for monitoring and treating diabetes) can transmit the virus.
  • Unprotected sexual activity: Engaging in unprotected sex with an HBV-infected individual increases the risk.
  • Needle-sharing among drug users: This practice can directly introduce the virus into the bloodstream.
  • Occupational hazards: Accidental needle stick injuries can expose individuals to HBV.

Household contacts: Individuals living with someone who has HBV are at risk.

Residents and staff in care facilities: People residing in or working at institutions for individuals with developmental disabilities face higher exposure risks.

Kidney dialysis patients: Due to frequent blood exposure, individuals undergoing dialysis are more vulnerable.

Travelers to high-prevalence areas: Those visiting countries where HBV is endemic are at risk.

Individuals with compromised health: This includes persons living with HIV, or those diagnosed with hemophilia, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, or cirrhosis.

Military personnel: Especially those serving in environments where exposure risks are elevated.

Professionals handling human remains: Morticians and embalmers are at risk due to occupational exposure.

Prisoners: Due to shared living conditions and lifestyle factors, prisoners are vulnerable to HBV.

Intravenous drug users: Illicit drug users who share needles face significant risk.

First responders and medical personnel: Professionals such as police, firefighters, and emergency medical workers who provide first aid or medical care may encounter HBV through blood exposure.
